Who's Coming?

Jesse Tilly from IBM will be in town to discuss Static Analysis, a highly beneficial form of "automated code review."

We will probably have time for 2-3 lightning talks as well - please let me know ASAP if you'd like to give a talk. Thanks!

We will again be treated to dinner/snacks courtesy of our principal sponsor, Vaco Technology. We will also have several exciting door prizes!

Jesse is a 15 year software veteran, resides in Atlanta and provides development, release and configuration management expertise to IBM’s clients. When not traveling and speaking, he’s looking for the person who supposedly did the structural review for his home. Jesse is also the co-author of "Ant: The Definitive Guide."

    Topic: Static Analysis

Everything ‘built’ has flaws. Buildings. Bridges. Software. You name it. But experience reduces the flaws and the risk. And that experience gets applied during architectural reviews, structural reviews and code reviews. Oh yeah, code reviews. Remember those? The benefits are obvious; find the problems early. But implementing reviews remains tricky. What standards? When should they be performed? And, alas, even when done well, their time-consuming nature makes them one of the first items cut from the schedule.

Come hear how a particular type of code review, static analysis, can yield better results. Better accuracy. Better learning. Better results. And static analysis can be automated; a good way to keep it on that project schedule.

Directions:

We are meeting at the Information Sciences building (affectionately known as "Building X") of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located at 160 Shadyac Avenue (formerly North Parkway) in downtown Memphis.

Please be aware that the entrance gate is on Third Street. Ignore any instructions from Google Maps to turn onto North Parkway/Shadyac Avenue. We are meeting in the building at the corner of Third Street and Shadyac Ave. - it has a blue awning over the front door (which is clearly visible on the satellite imagery, and now has the St. Jude logo as well).

You will need to buzz in at the gate and tell St. Jude security you are here for the Java User Group meeting.
