The next meeting of the Memphis Java User Group will be held *this week* Thursday at 6 pm.
Please RSVP at: http://www.meetup.com/memphis-technology-user-groups/events/95604082/
Our main talk this month is "Groovy by Example" by Memphis JUG's own Chris Roberts. Chris is a senior consultant at a Richmond-based web development company. He's worked with Java professionally since 2000 and is currently learning Groovy by using it for any development task he can think of.
During the talk we'll look at the use of Groovy in mostly a scripting role to learn about the language's syntax, higher-order functions, and closures. Examples will showcase Groovy's JDK extensions and its own GDK, as well as the functional programming techniques that are standard in Groovy programming. We will briefly explore the Groovy ecosystem, and see how easy the language makes it to interact with data, manipulate files, and perform common scripting tasks. We'll even throw in a word game or two to see how Groovy makes it fun to work on non-enterprisey projects.
We still have slots available for lightning talks. If you'd like to give 5 minute presentation on a development topic or project let us know.
We are meeting at Southwest Tennessee Community College, 5983 Macon Cove Memphis, TN 38134. From I-40, exit at Sycamore View Road. Turn right at Macon road, then continue to the campus entrance. Take a left at the next road, then turn right.
