PyArkansas + Geek Week

PyArkansas

The Past. You missed it.

The Python User Group took a trip down to Conway, Arkansas for PyArkansas last month. This was a free one day conference, focused on Python. For a free conference, this event was spectacular. Sponsors included Stack Exchange and Mozilla. For the price of gas to the University of Central Arkansas we got five development focused tracks. I particularly liked the talks on design patterns and TDD in Python. I hope to attend again next year, it isn't something I want to miss.

We've entered Geek Week here in Memphis. Geek Week is a promotional event where several tech themed events have been set back-to-back-to-back.

Here's what's going on:

TechCamp Memphis
http://techcampmemphis.com/
Today! November 3rd

TechCamp is an affordable one day conference. It has a general tech focus, with five tracks. One track is for beginner developers and another is focused on people who already know how to code. The developer tracks are not tool or language specific, so we've already had talks on Ruby, PHP, and Python. I'm looking forward to the developer panel in particular at the end of the day.

Memphis Python User Group
http://mempy.org/
Monday, November 5th

The Python user group is hosting a Coding Dojo at their next meeting. Using Python, programmers will pair up and tackle short problems to perform "Deliberate Practice". In the process, you will discover more about the craft of creating code. You should bring your laptop with Python already installed. If you don't have a laptop, don't worry, you can pair with another programmer.

Memphis .NET User Group
http://mnug.net/
Thursday, November 8th

The .NET User Group is hosting a Super User Group meeting where they've invited all other user group members to attend. This meeting will be a series of short talks, focused on cross platform and language agnostic tools. If you're interested in giving a talk, you can reach the .NET user group organizer Brian Swanson on Twitter at @bgswanson.
